One Hour Train is part of the Scandinavian-Mediterranean Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). Helsinki and Turku are both nodal points in the TEN-T corridor.
A faster train connection will open up new opportunities for international train travel to various destinations in Europe. Sweden’s National Reform Programme addresses the country’s transport infrastructure with a large railway investment, aimed at improving night train connections to Europe. This means that those travelling by boat from Turku to Sweden will be able to continue their journey by train all the way to Denmark and Germany.
One Hour Train will also improve the connection between Stockholm and Saint Petersburg, which will make train travel between these two cities more attractive to tourists, as well.
